The quest for the perfect sippy
Let's open this page with sippie cups. First, it is good to start your child on a sippie cup before they are a year old. I didn't and this meant the bottle hung around longer than everyone wanted. I've been told if you start the sippie at least part time before their first birthday, it is easier. Wish they told me this before her first birthday.
Once we started on sippies - the search for the perfect sippie.
1. Those sippies with a snap on lid that come in packs are not for little kids. They flip it off much easier than you put it on and they dribble as they don't have valves. Both these issues = messes....big messes.
2. My infatuation with First Year. I got a couple of First Year Winnie the Pooh cups. They are valveless or rather have a built in valve. They were great as the second valve really equalized the pressure as she was learning to use a sippy. However they start dripping from the two valves after awhile. The quest continued.
3. I had a couple of Playtex sippies, but that removable valve just seemed a drag. You have to make sure that they are in the little box in the dishwasher silver tray. You have to stuff them in after you wash.
4. Munchkin sippies - These also have a removable valve. My daughter had trouble drinking from these when she was younger, but can drink from them now. They do come with fun trademarked characters like Dora.
5. Nuby sippies - I got a great deal on a set of 5 these cups off EBay. The concept is great. Like the First Year cups they have a built in valve. The whole top is made of a soft silicon. My daughter doesn't like these and they seem to drip alot on her as she drinks. I think she is too old for this style now. If you have a small child, these might make a great transition from the bottle.
6. Gerber sippies - I think the removable valve for this is hard to get clean even with a tooth brush. I would skip this.
So what is my final favourite? It turns out that the Playtex are the best for my house. They seal well. The tops are mostly interchangable. The valves fit all Playtex models. They come in many sizes and shapes. Right now it is nice that they come in an insulated model and milk lasts longer on a summer walk.
Champion - Playtex!!!
